Accomplishments

In 2009, Citizens’ Academy received the following recognitions for academic excellence:

  • Ranked 1st in Ohio for 3rd Grade African American students achievement
  • One of only 11 schools in Cleveland rated "Excellent"
  • One of only 24 schools in Cuyahoga County to be named a School of Promise

Closing the Achievement Gap

  • Citizens' Academy's students outperformed the statewide average and the statewide average for non-minority students on 8 of 9 tests, overcoming Ohio's 30 percentage-point achievement gap.
  • Citizens' Academy's math and reading student achievement was on par with the Orange School District

Achievement Tests

Citizens’ Academy students posted the following passage rates on the 2009 Ohio Achievement Tests. The participation rate for each grade was 100%.

  • 3rd Grade- Reading: 96% Math: 96%
  • 4th Grade - Reading: 94% Math: 91% Writing: 96%
  • 5th Grade - Reading: 88% Math: 74% Science: 69% Social Studies: 57%
  • Average increase over 2008 Achievement Results: 11 percentage-points
